Keeping active is a huge part of overall health, and unfortunately something that gets neglected a lot by most people. Eating healthy is also paramount for optimal health, and something that I’ve referred to in other posts on this blog.

However when it comes to exercise, you really should aim to get your heart rate above resting for atleast 10 mins a day. This is not actually that hard to do, and can be achieved from brisk walking around the block. Cylcing is also good, however you need to make sure that you are pushing yourself, and not just going to a lazy peddle, as the goal is to raise the rate rate above resting!

Workouts

Although gym works out are good, if you just do machine weights only, you are only moving in one set motion, and it is mush better to lubricate as many joint as possible and mimic natural movements where possible. The body is designed to lift, pull, jump etc…and any movements that involve these natural motions are better for you.

Skipping is also a good exercise, as it get the heart rate up and can be done from pretty much anywhere you can get some space.

Running is also good, however when running on hard surfaces you are exerting a lot of pressure on the joints, and this can lead to damage, especially if poor quality shoes are worn and bad technique also. I think swimming is a better choice, however again, like cycling you need to make sure you are pushing yourself at a rate that pushes your heart rate above resting.

By keeping active once a day, you strengthen your heart and also help your immune system produce white blood cells, which are responsible for fighting off disease. Also activity is good for the entire cardiovascualr system.

Health Benefits

There are numerous advantages of regular exercise. If you struggle to control your stress levels, regualr exercise releases endorphines, and these can make you feel more relaxed and lower your stress. In fact stress is one of the most dangerous threats to your health, and nearly all disease somehow have a link to stress.

If you have type two diabetes, regualr exercise helps control the condition, however not on it’s own, as you really need to watch your diet and eat as much raw fruit and vegetables as possible, as well as consult a medical professional.
